Features and Benefits

Compared to bearings with steel rolling elements of the same size, the benefits of hybrid bearings include:

• Protection against damage from electric current
  Hybrid bearings are non-conductive, making them suitable for applications such as AC and DC motors and generators where electric currents are present.
• Higher speed capacity
  The density of silicon nitride rolling elements is 60% lower than that of a rolling element made of bearing steel of the same size. This reduced weight and inertia translate into higher speed capacity and superior performance during rapid starts and stops.
• Long service life
  In hybrid bearings, reduced frictional heat generation, especially at high speeds, extends the bearing’s service life and increases relubrication intervals.
• High wear resistance
  Silicon nitride rolling elements have a higher degree of hardness, making hybrid bearings suitable for harsh conditions and contaminated environments.
• High bearing stiffness
  With a high modulus of elasticity, hybrid bearings offer increased bearing stiffness.
• Reduced risk of friction
  Even under inadequate lubrication conditions, such as at high speeds and rapid accelerations or when there is insufficient hydrodynamic film, the risk of friction between silicon nitride and steel surfaces is reduced.
• Reduced risk of false brinelling
  When exposed to vibrations, hybrid bearings are significantly less sensitive to the risk of false brinelling (formation of shallow indentations in the raceways) between silicon nitride and steel surfaces.
• Less sensitivity to temperature gradients
  Silicon nitride rolling elements have a lower thermal expansion coefficient, making them more stable against temperature gradients within the bearing and allowing for more accurate preload/gap control.
