Lock nuts with washers are not deemed suitable for super-precision bearing applications due to the relatively wide manufacturing tolerances of threads and support surfaces. Consequently, SKF has developed a complete range of precision locknuts produced within very narrow tolerances. These easy-to-install devices accurately and efficiently position bearings and other components on a shaft, meeting both technical and economic requirements for machine tool applications.

All SKF precision locknuts utilize friction between the matching threaded flanges of the shaft and the locknut to secure their position.
